Nostalgic Mon State

Mon State is an administrative division of Myanmar. Previously, this city was the capital of the Mon Kingdom.It lies between Kayin State to the east, the Andaman Sea to the west, Bago Regionto the north and Tanintharyi Region to the south, also having a short border with Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province at its south-eastern tip. Mon State includes some small islands, such as Kalegauk, Wa Kyun and Kyungyi Island, along its 566 km of coastline. The state’s capital is Mawlamyine. The 4th largest city  of Myanmar, Mawlamyine sits next to Kyaikhtiyo City. 

So far, the city is quiet and peaceful, with lots of green trees that make the city become green and cool with some infrastructure of British colonial’s architecture. Off all the tourist attractions in Mawlamyine, a place should not be missed once visiting Mawlamyine is the mosque located on the bank of Thanlwin River. The mosque was built by Indian slaves who were brought to this area mining by British colonial from decades ago. There are also a few works of the first church beside the river was still kept until now.

Mawlamyine can be reached by air from Yangon. It also has road and sea connections.
